Loves

I wanted Swedish music. I went to It’s A Trap!. Saw their compilation. Liked the first artist. MySpaced her. First song is basically me at uni at the moment. (Highschool Stalker). Getting album and 2 singles. Loves.

And yesterday, you passed me by
I swear, you nearly said Hi
I could have died

Idlewild

Idlewild (Outkast movie) website

Watch the trailer on there, looks like a pretty class, if strange, film. The music in the last third of the trailer is a new Outkast song I believe, presumably from the Idlewild soundtrack, and sounds really good. The film’s out August - not sure when the OST is out.

The Boy Least Likely To Gig

Jesus Christ. Absolutely fucking amazing.

First off, the support were great, B.C. Camplight, so we got their album and I got a limited edition (100 copies) single. Got them all signed by everybody at the end. The singer was downing half a bottle of Southern Comfort in between singing and playing piano.

When Boy Least Likely To came on it WAS ‘the best party ever’. I was singing along to everything, class atmostphere, SO glad I went. One of the band (the blonde woman) started eating cakes on stage. They all love their hand actions. They like to stomp. They like to clap. We were right at the front, literally next to the stage. Vikki bought their album and got it signed by all of them. I got a piece of paper signed by the singer. Vikki was brilliant at getting signings, just kept somehow getting more and more. We have you a goodie bag Sy. :-) I have badges and posters and a nice t-shirt.

Best moments:

- MONSTERS. Oh my God. Monsters live is EASILY their best song, they start getting louder and faster the more it goes on, fucking incredible.
- Papercuts.
- (…) Apple Wagon (…)
- Be Gentle With Me - they set off a bubble machine in our faces. We had bubbles going all over us but we just didn’t care.
- NIGEL! NIGEL! chant for the sound engineer.

Oh yeah, and:

Event: The Boy Least Likely To, 30 Apr 2006 19:30
Venue: Manchester Uni/Academy 2&3

Just booked that. They were that good.

Jim Noir

Just saw Jim Noir live. That was pretty mint, did about 6 songs then a signing. I got their 7″ signed, which I bought for a quid. Might buy the album, going to download first.

GIG NUMBER ONE OF THE NEXT TWO WEEKS…COMPLETE. Two more to go!

The Indelicates

Oh my God. I’ve just found such a class band.

The Indelicates.

Just listen to those mp3s. Listened to ‘Burn All The Photographs’ (you’ll have to put in a direct address to that one - I’ll put it here if you can’t figure it out) and Julia, We Don’t Live In The 60s so far - I’m loving it SO much. Now onto ‘New Art For The People’, some of the lyrics feel really unexpected (first two lines of NAFTP are filthy), but whooooa.

I DISCOVERED THESE ONES. If you did before me, Sy, a) I’ll cry and b) why was I not informed?

Wooooooooooooo!

Look what came in the post :D

At last!

Also, they’ve filmed a video for ‘Be Gentle With Me’ - it’s bloody class.

View it here

Finally, think I’m gonna be going to see The Shortwave Set with Iria and possibly Liam. :D

January 25, 2006

Told you so.

£62 for Arctic Monkeys (plus the 2 quid p+p which I’m not counting in that). So about the same it is, told you. ;-)

Need For Speed just went for £18, so £80 altogether excluding p+p - NICE. And that pays for my albums I bought the other day.

MORE music

- Heard Edan’s Beauty and the Beat. Fucking class. Love Torture Chamber.

- Bloc Party - Silent Alarm: good.

- Cat Power - The Greatest: ’tis indeed great.

OH GOD I CAN’T TAKE ANY MORE PURCHASES FOR NOW.

January 22, 2006

*orders music*

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
The Strokes - First Impressions Of Earth
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise
Shortwave Set - The Debt Collection
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not

£54 on Play.com

PLUS

Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
We Are Scientists - With Love & Squalor

£22 off HMV.

So that’s £76 gone there. Most of that should recouped by my eBay sales, so it’s alright.

January 21, 2006

More new music.

Just heard of a band called Cat Power. They’re mint. Gonna download the album when I’m home, probably buy if the rest is as good as what I heard (it’s on a myspace page, just search for ‘Cat Power’ on Google).

New Music

Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise. Fucking hell. I’ve not listened to it yet, but this album has the shittiest track names ever. Gonna listen now, the music better make up for it.

Update: It did.

We Are Scientists are pretty damn good.
Jose is a bit meh, wasn’t in the mood for it I don’t think.

Update 2:

- Jose is good.
- Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy is fucking amazing. I’m getting serious Magic Numbers/Clap Your Hands Say Yeah vibes off it…yet it’s not really anything like them. I think the Magic Numbers vibe comes from the two singers.
- The Shortwave Set - similarly brilliant.

More soon…
